"Some artists break the rules, others reinvent them creating an entirely new foundation to explore their muse. Guitarist Alvaro Rojas’ Music for 22 is a masterful foray into the sublime creative crevices of Jazz.”

- Michael Ambrosino, 33third.org

Music for 22 is the latest offering from Vancouver based composer/guitarist Alvaro Rojas. Featuring music for guitar + string quartet composed during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic. Releasing on November 18, 2022, “Music for 22” is a dreamlike and shadowy exploration of Rojas’ unique guitar stylings and creative arrangements.

The album features a core quartet of some of Canada’s finest musicians and improvisors (Meredith Bates, Peggy Lee, Josh Zubot and Lucy Strauss), along with a host of special guests, Including American Rn’B vocalist, producer and Brainfeeder artist Georgia Anne Muldrow.

At the onset of the pandemic, Rojas’ made a commitment to use this weird pause in life to return to the creative roots of his earliest years as a musician, shed some layers and create a music from deep within his own intuition.

Written for 22 strings (4+4+4+4+6), and releasing in 2022, Music for 22 is part chamber music, part jazz improv and part electro-acoustic soundscape, and combines the elements of harmony, melody and texture that Rojas explored on his 2020 release Gran Kasa, and places them in a unique new context.
